Our Initiatives: An expression of hope…

That’s what our initiatives and programs are all about. Hope. Optimism. A better future and an even better sanctuary. We strive to build awareness in the rescue community and beyond. It’s why we welcome your ideas and contributions.

War Horse Creek: Equine-Assisted Reintegration Training For Veterans

War Horse Creek is an immersive reintegration training program using rescued wild mustangs to assist veterans in their transition from military to civilian life. Learn more at www.warhorsecreek.org.

“We rescue the mustang. The mustang rescues the veteran.”

Living Free’s Patriot Pets: Adoption Program for U.S. Veterans

Our newly minted Patriot Pets Program is yet another way to foster the human-animal connection. We help match the right dog or cat to the veteran. They then qualify for greatly reduced adoption fees. Once you’ve found your Patriot Pet (and they’ve found you), you’ll be entitled to a 10% discount at an approved veterinarian office for your pet’s care. Adoption requirements are the same for any applicant and must be approved by the cattery or kennel staff.

Our Animal Caregivers can recommend specific matches and are here to make the adoption process simple and rewarding. While it is yet to be verified, there is evidence to support that veterans who have adopted companion animals are far more likely to thrive emotionally.

And so much more…

We are developing our Education & Outreach Initiative to promote responsible pet ownership.

Our Foster Care Program works in tandem with ARF: Animal Rescue Friends of Idyllwild. Senior pets, pets with special needs or medical needs, and female dogs and cats with litters are at the highest risk of being euthanized unless they are placed in homes. That’s where fostering takes on a critical role in saving lives.

We have created Almost Home 2025, an initiative to work with other rescue organizations to end the need for healthy animal euthanasia by increasing public awareness, eradicating inhumane puppy and kitten mills, and seeing that every shelter in the U.S. can become no-kill by the year 2025
