Transparency
We believe transparency means showing you the impact we’re making. Here, you can see how many animals we take in, where they come from, what happens to them, and the outcomes we achieve together. We’ll also share a look at our finances so you can see how your support makes this work possible.

As a no-kill shelter, we never euthanize for space, age, or adoptability. Any euthanasia is medically necessary when an animal is suffering and there is no humane alternative. We believe dignity means preventing unnecessary suffering, even when that means making the hardest decision.

A note about our data: Our current tracking system was implemented in 2023, so historical records before 2021 are limited and may not be directly comparable. For consistency and accuracy, our public intake and outcome data begins in 2021. Living Free primarily rescues from municipal shelters and generally does not accept owner surrenders, though we may make exceptions in extenuating circumstances. Our system also categorizes animals returned more than one year after adoption as owner surrenders, and horse intakes may be categorized the same way due to system limitations. Intake and outcome numbers naturally fluctuate based on available space, adoptions, and the changing needs of the animals we serve.
