Rehoming an animal
Rehoming a pet can be a difficult decision, and we understand that sometimes circumstances change. Below you’ll find helpful resources and guidance to ensure your pet finds a safe and loving new home.

Please note: Living Free Animal Sanctuary is not able to accept animals directly from the public. We rescue cats and dogs from municipal shelters, focusing on those most at risk of euthanasia. However, the resources listed here can help you responsibly rehome your pet or find organizations that may be able to assist.

Living Free Animal Sanctuary provides these resources as a community guide only. We do not endorse or guarantee the services listed and availability or pricing may change at any time. We encourage you to contact each provider directly for the most current information.

Riverside county
animal services
If you're unable to care for your pet and have exhausted all other options, Riverside County Department of Animal Services (RCDAS) is a responsible alternative to abandonment. While not a no-kill facility, RCDAS has made significant strides in improving outcomes for animals. In the first half of 2025, their live release rate increased to 78.8% for cats and dogs combined. This means that nearly 8 out of 10 animals are leaving the shelter alive, a substantial improvement over past years.

Additionally, animals at county shelters like RCDAS may have a higher chance of being seen and adopted due to their visibility and outreach efforts. You may also consider researching shelters in other counties (San Diego County, Orange County, San Bernadino County)

Choosing to surrender your pet to RCDAS, when necessary, ensures that they receive proper care and have the opportunity to find a new home, rather than facing the uncertainties and risks associated with abandonment.
